TACTICS

Mounted, Dismounted, and Urban Entry Tactics are also covered in The Survival Group. One of the formations covered under Dismounted Operations is the Diamond Formation

DIAMOND FORMATION

tactics

Used when traveling in small groups. Typically used when moving forward to perform reconnaissance. The diamond provides good 360-degree security. Tighter dispersion between personnel is often used. 10-15 feet dispersion is optimal. In hours of darkness or restrictive terrain, 5-10 feet dispersion can be used.

The diamond formation is also used in personal protection details and can be adapted when conducting movement with children or individuals unable to protect themselves. When this technique is utilized, additional personnel should be pushed well ahead of the formation to ensure the route is clear.
